What is Health in Zionsville?
What is health and how can you become truly healthy in Zionsville?
First, we need to describe and define what health in Zionsville is, so let's look at some definitions:
Merriam-Webster: the condition of being sound in body, mind, or spirit.
Dictionary.com: the general condition of the body or mind with reference to soundness and vigor.
Google (everyone's favorite): the state of being free from illness or injury.
The list goes on and on in the debate of defining health. But does health really just mean the absence of disease? What does being sound in body, mind, and spirit even mean?
The definition of Health that resonates with us the most is the World Health Organizations definition which states that "health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity."
A Holistic View of Health
When we look at Health it does not only mean “not being sick” or not being in pain - it is the state of COMPLETE physical, mental and social well-being. We like looking at the whole picture of what it means to be a healthy person.
Reaching a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being can seem like a daunting task and when looking into how to get there it seems like everyone has a different opinion. Most people tend to seek for something that will make them healthy instantly or a "magic pill". Unfortunately, true health does not come from a bottle, jar, or packet.
The good news is that our bodies have the ability to express health and adapt to everything that we are surrounded by on a daily basis. True health comes from within each and every one of us, it's truly an inside job. It's all about giving our bodies the things they need to perform the jobs they innately know how to do.
What Your Body Needs to be Healthy
Let's take some time to look at the universal truths about what our bodies need to function at their best.
- Appropriate foods/proper nutrition
- Clean air and water
- Mental stimulation and positive thinking
- Exercise and movement
- Safe environment and shelter
- Proper rest
- Sunshine
- Supportive social interactions
- Minimal chemicals that we are exposed to
- A nervous system that functions properly without any interference
With all these components in place, our bodies can do what they were created to do! Our bodies have an amazing ability to heal, repair, and function at 100% on their own when given the proper environment!
For the most part. you probably understand why getting proper nutrition, fresh air/water, exercise, rest, etc. is important for our bodies - but what does a properly functioning nervous system have to do with health?
The Nervous System and Your Health
Our body's ability to communicate properly and adapt to the environment is accomplished via the nervous system. Our nervous system is what alerts our brain to what's going on in our environment and it helps our body respond appropriately. Without proper communication, we cannot be fully engaged with what's going on in the world around us, we can't appropriately react to life's stressors, and we can't reach a state of complete ease and health.
Making sure that this communication is free of any obstacles or interference is our primary focus as chiropractors. We make sure that the messages are being sent and received properly between your brain and body - ensuring that all of your cells, muscles, and organs are receiving the information and attention they need to function at their best.
Didn't know that Chiropractic could help with that? Most people don't! We take a holistic approach in our office to help you become your healthiest self. We know that being healthy is so much more than "not being sick", and we actively work with you to help you reach whatever health goals you have.
