A Long Term Solution for Neck Pain in Zionsville
Neck pain is a big problem in today's society. It is estimated that about 30% of adults in the US will suffer from neck pain every year and nearly 50% of those individuals will continue to experience some degree of chronic neck pain or frequent occurrences.
A large portion of these adults say that neck pain is the reason that they are not able to do certain activities that they love and that their neck pain effects their quality of life.
How Can Zionsville Chiropractors Help?
Science and research have continually proven the effectiveness of chiropractic care in Zionsville in the treatment of neck and back pain. The research also states that Chiropractic is a more safe and effective approach to resolving back and neck pain than medication.
A 2003 study demonstrated that Chiropractic care provided neck pain relief more quickly and effectively than medication or acupuncture. In this study, 115 people with neck pain were put into 3 different groups; people who received Chiropractic adjustments, people who received acupuncture, and people who received medication. They then evaluated each group using several different markers to track their improvement including standardized pain scales and ranges of motion. This study found that 29% of people in the Chiropractic group reported no further symptoms even 9 weeks after their treatment. In comparison, 9.4% of the people in the acupuncture group and 5% of the medication group reported the same results showing that chiropractic care is a solution for neck pain.
More recently a study published in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics from 2015 assessed the long-term effectiveness of chiropractic care for patients with neck pain. This study evaluated 545 patients who were suffering from acute and chronic neck pain. One year after starting Chiropractic care to correct misalignment/subluxation and tension within the spine, almost 90% of participants reported complete resolution of their neck pain. Chiropractic care produces effective results for neck pain in a non-invasive and safe manner without relying on drugs or surgery.
Don't Ignore Pain or Discomfort
Symptoms, like pain and aches, are signals and originate because they are caused by something negative going on in the body. Commonly, when someone is experiencing discomfort, the first thing that is reached for is medication to stop the pain. Naturally, this makes sense, I am in pain and want to be out of pain so I will take pain medication. But, we want to pose the question of, what is this doing for the cause of the problem? The pain may be gone due to the medication but is the problem fixed? Of course not! The structure that was causing the pain is still under stress and exacerbations or "flare-ups" are extremely likely because deep down the problem is still there.
Imagine this, you are driving down the road and a light starts flashing telling you to check the engine. What would you do? Put some tape over the light so you can't see the car signaling that something is wrong or would you bring the car to a mechanic to see what the cause of the problem is?
When a slow-developing problem begins to occur, like a cavity in a tooth, pain typically ends up being the final symptom. Our bodies will naturally dampen the pain sensation in order for us to get through our day until there is the "straw that broke the camel's back" and we are overwhelmed with discomfort, yet wondering what has happened. A misguided approach to treatment often manifests in these circumstances where the treatment focuses solely on the reduction of pain rather than correcting the cause of the problem.
The American Chiropractic Association describes what causes back pain as:
"The back is a complicated structure of bones, joints, ligaments, and muscles. You can sprain ligaments, strain muscles, rupture disks, and irritate joints, all of which can lead to back pain. While sports injuries or accidents can cause back pain, sometimes the simplest of movements—for example, picking up a pencil from the floor— can have painful results. In addition, arthritis, poor posture, obesity, and psychological stress can cause or complicate back pain. "
Chiropractic addresses the source of pain and offers a healthy and lasting alternative to improving the function of the spine. Nobody wants to experience neck or back pain, but research suggests that at some point most people will. Chiropractic delivers effective long-term solutions without the dangers and side effects of medications or surgeries.
